ENGINE AIR FILTERING ELEMENT |
 |
The engine air filter could be compared to the automobiles lungs. It is designed to eliminate the dust contained in the ambient air taken in by the engine.
If the air filter is clogged, it can cause the following problems :
- Carburation problems which will increase until driving becomes disagreeable,
- Loss of vehicle performance,
- Increased fuel consumption, - Increased intake pressure drop causing an increase in polluting gas emissions,
- Penetration of dust through the carburettor or the injection system, likely to cause piston ring scoring.
Depending on their capacity, engines at full load can take in between 200 and 500 m3 of air per hour. This air contains a varying amount of impurities depending on the country, the weather conditions, the road surface, etc. If this dust is not filtered, it will cause premature wear of the engine.
Accordingly, the filter has to offer the highest level of performance, i.e.:
- stop the maximum proportion of dust from entering the engine (typically, efficiency of more than 99%),
- stop a large quantity of dust (capacity between 50 and 200 g depending on applications and even 500 g for countries where the dust level is considered to be high)
- limit the increased pressure drop due to the inlet of dust (loss of power, increased pollution and fuel consumption).
To ensure a high level of filter performance and quality, a high performance industrialization know-how is essential.
To supply filter elements of highest quality, Sogefi is able to combine every type of media (cellulose paper + meltblown, oiled paper, synthetic fibres
) with stratified, single layer or dual layer medium technology. |
