PETROL FUEL FILTER |
 |
| Integrated into the fuel supply system |
For their new generation of vehicles, the major automobile manufacturers are moving towards non-return fuel supply injection systems.
This trend intends to cut costs (a single pipe under the body, elimination of connections) and enhance environmental friendliness linked to permeability (emissions of vapors into the atmosphere).
The immediate consequence of this is that the filter becomes permanent and
must have a service life corresponding to 160,000 km, a performance which guarantees
the necessary protection of the injectors (filtration threshold of around 8 µm),
and a more acceptable gradual pressure drop as the filter media becomes blocked
which is compatible with the trouble-free performance of the injection system.
The petrol fuel filter is now an integral part of the fuel intake system, immersed in the tank as shown in diagram below.
Filtrauto has developed a synthetic filtration media for this new generation of filters. Glass fibers are mixed with cellulose giving the media a service life which is 2.5 times longer than conventional media for the same media surface area. This outstanding advantage is sometimes combined with that obtained using the chevron pleat, a process which for many years - has enabled Filtrauto to offer its customers the most compact filters with a given level of performance.
These technological breakthroughs mean that Filtrauto offers a compact filter element which can be easily built into the intake system as a permanent feature.
This high standard of performance calls for sophisticated test equipment, more precisely, particle counting to characterize filtration (ISO TR 13353 methods).
The central laboratory has installed a test unit which applies these modern methods.
